In a certain ladies' circle, which Paula is a member of, it has been stated that my new found vocabulary is reserved for print only. It was stated, by someone very close to me that most of my audible words were in fact, grunts. Upon further discussion a hasty generalization was made about all men by another in the group. Namely, that most of us do little more than grunt. This may be true, but really, what more needs to be said? Ladies, just think of our most common verbal utterances as aphorisms. We're trying not to bore you with the details. Our grunts pretty well sum up the answers that you expect from us. We don't want to make any waves and we've learned that most of our answers are wrong anyway. Why take chances? Why risk a sleepless night of arguing because you said yes when you were supposed to say something ambiguous or give a compliment? Worse yet, why risk missing the playoff game because you affirmed your beloved's fear of the day instead of giving a general purpose "grunt". The following are just a few examples of why "grunt" is the favored answer among men: "Why do you always agree with your mother?" "Am I gaining weight? Tell the truth." "Do you remember what I bought you for our anniversary?" "When will you ever finish tiling the floor?" "Would you like to go to the mall with me or watch the game?" Right or wrong, a grunt is the last, best hope of mankind.
