Have you checked to make sure that the things in the basket don't all have to be disinfected between patients (like they are in isolation from being immunocompromised)?  Like kids in isolation cannot have stuffed animals.  Nothing can be cloth.  It usually has to be plastic.  Color pages that can be passed individually would be good, but how does that work with the crayons?  It may not matter to the staff.  It was just something I thought of.  (We were talking about it in lab this week.)  I may be way off base.  I still think it's a great idea to give the kids something to keep their minds off where they are and why they are there!  It's great if they can just be kids for a while.
