Subject: Paradise

Before sharing my thoughts here, please understand that I am only comparing in a small way our experience to those of eternity. By no way do I believe myself anything beyond normal. Today we took advantage of a chance for our family to take a small retreat. We hired a young pastor this week to watch and mentor the boys full time. He is a local Honduran with Bible Training at the school in Comayagua that Jim Faber oversees. Today, we left the children in his care with help from our maid, whom cooked the meals and cleaned up. We went to Comayagua, initially to take Hannah to spend the night with Scott and Cindy's daughter Katherine. We had thought of going to the swimming pool near Comayagua. As the day progressed and we considered the stomach problems we've all had this week, we thought a few hours at the Hotel Quan for a little swimming, a NAP and some old movie IN ENGLISH before taking Hannah to her sleepover would be better. We were all pretty wiped out from a week of less than perfect health, 24/7 child care and farm chores. If you can believe it, even our little waterbug Faith didn't want to swim more than an hour. We were beginning to shower up (yes, running, heated water). Paula emerged from her shower beaming with a thought, "why don't you stay here overnight with the kids?", she offered. I was excited about the offer, but then I thought about whom is always on duty here. I told her it was a good idea and that SHE should stay with the kids. The kids agreed that she is the one that deserved a break. It took her an hour to be convinced and not let me stay at the hotel. Afterwards we enjoyed some pleasant conversation with Scott and Cindy. We ended up eating at a restaurant called "Bojangles" (a fried chicken chain from the Southern US). I dropped Paula, Faith, John and Timothy off back at the Quan and started the drive home. On the way, the Lord reminded me of His journey here from Heaven. It made me realize how much he sought solitude from the masses in order to speak with His Father and commune with fine folks like Elijah and Moses. I in no way believe myself worthy to be compared to the Lord. However, our little retreat today did illuminate me on why the Lord sought to speak with His Family in Heaven (his home). We miss our home. We miss Texas. Most of all, we miss our family and friends. We know the Lord has a purpose for our lives here and hopefully we are doing something good for the boys. If our mission in Honduras lasts for the remainder of our lives, it cannot be compared to the eternity in which we fellowship with all those we know and love the Lord. Please be a part of eternity's reunion! "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household." (Acts 16:31) There is no other way to Heaven. A simple faith in Jesus is the only way. All of your good deeds cannot overcome any single sin. We have all sinned. Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)
