Subject: Advent day 18

This morning I read our advent story to the littles before they went out the door for exams at school.  It is one of my favorites in our heritage; the story of Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz.    I love the story of fidelity, transformation, and redemption.  He takes the bitter, afraid to hunger heart and gives it life.  That is what His government does.  That is what His Wonderful Counsel does.  He never failed to give everything needed for our hearts to find nourishment and rest.  I can't imagine the sigh of contentment that Ruth and then Naomi must have exhaled after God had done His will.

Before I had gotten up I read 1 Peter 1:1-13.  I hope that this Word continues to give me hope, long after advent.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

I think about some fires we stand in right now, I pray that they result in praise, glory, and honor of the King.  Oh to live in that revelation of Jesus moment by moment.  Already this morning I have breathed in deep, with eyes closed and hands extended...........not because I could just break out in spontaneous praise, but because I must............that my heart depends on it.  Only the River of Him is deep enough to nourish every part of my soul in a fire.  The goodness of our God never ceases.

In this advent I am learning.  I am learning to stop and take the time.  I am learning that my life is His life.  I am waiting on Him.  I am closing my mouth and letting Him be the Government and Counsel.  I am learning simply because I came to wait, because I didn't want to miss Him passing.  I have realized that Paula misses a good bit.

Merry Christmas,  it is a most wonderful time to be alive,
